I just found out that my UK imprint (Little, Brown) nominated my book for the Arthur C. Clarke award!http://vectoreditors.wordpress.com/2011/....rd-submissions/ I certainly didn't see that coming.

Congratulations, Terry.
May the road gangs never meet you. May the wind be fallout-free. May the sun shine through the ashes, hot rain not fall on thee. And until we meet again, may no one hold your flesh in the palm of their hand.

Thanks, matov. Best offer I've had in quite some time. If I win, I'm buying.

I'm finally making progress on the sequel to The Unit. We moved three times in 15 months, but I'm back to writing. I'm toying with at least two time periods, the immediate aftermath of the war, and another set twenty years after. It's fun to play with memory and the effects of time's passage. (Almost ten years since 9/11?! Did Bin Laden's death feel a bit anticlimactic to anyone else?) I'm also enjoying contrasting the generation who survived the war with those born after, who have no choice but to unfuck things. (A bit resentful, they are, these new baby boomers.) I hope to have a draft completed in five months. Thanks to those of you who bought or otherwise read my first book. I hate self-promotion, but... I'll send a signed copy of The Unit to any of you who write a review on Amazon, Goodreads, B&N or Powells. You can sell it on eBay, use it to prop a gimpy table leg or take it on your next trip to the shooting range. For those of you in the Portland, OR area, I'll be signing books at the Vancouver (WA) "Art in the Heart" shindig on 5 August, 5 - 9pm, in front of Angst Gallery. I'd love to meet local PA types. Hopefully, the microbrew tent will be close.

I recently received another review of The Unit. This one made my month.http://thealternativeone.blogspot.com/20....rry-dehart.html ...but I should know better than to read my reviews while I'm trying to write another book. It can drive a person to drink, etc. (Hic)
