I don't think so. Even the "THE MAYA SAID IT!"-explanation is wrong.
Why should it happen in that particular year, anyway?

Yeah, total bunk. Will be funny to see if the predictions change after we pass the deadline and nothing happens.

Nothing natural at least. I wouldn't be surprised if there are various man-made events (bombings, attacks, etc) timed to coincide with the date.

I don't think anything will happen in 2012 of any significance, like Corny stated the Mayans calendar only ends and doesn't say anything about an apocalypse. The only thing that I have read that has any scientific evidence is there may be a solar maximum. Some scientists argue over the exact year 2010, 2011 or 2012. I don't think anything will happen. But will use it to its full extent to justify Toy purchases to the wife. Ha ha!!

(Just to be safe though, I am not buying any Christmas presents until the 22 of Dec, 2012)

Well, seeing as the Torries pretty much have the power here in England now, I have begun Operation MINISTER PRIME in which myself and likeminded associated shall march upon and subsequently destroy parliment. The construction of the giant robot should be complete around 2012 so I find it only apt to continue my reign of terror accross the rest of the world.

Well if you think that someone can predict the future then we might be in trouble. I think we are going to be fine aside from the crazy people who just go nutty and act out in fear. Lets look back to the y2k. Most people did not think much of it untill the day was here. Then everyone started to go out and get water and supplys.

This 2012 stuff is all because the dude who wrote the mayan calendar thought:

"You know what? Fuck it! It's not like anyone else in the village is acctually going to read this thing! Let's see... December 23rd 2012, that looks like a good enough place as any to stop... Ha... wouldn't it be funny if some moronic future society decided to place an highly inflated festival of consumerism in close proximity to that date, probably erasing a past festival of great cultural wealth in the process, and then misinterprited my ending the calendar here to mean the end of the world... haha... Nah, doubt anyone'd be that stupid."
