Finished it today. I had read it before, but had forgotten how good it was. So now I'm in the mood to read the sequel, Night of the Triffids.
According to Wikipedia, it kind of captures the feeling of the original, but the plot summary does make it sound more campy. Almost sounds like an old Edgar Rice Burroughs adventure.
I think I'll give it a try.
