 Costuming?
« Thread Started on Feb 25, 2011, 11:44pm »

Costuming is one of my favorite things about the PA genre. I don't really do a whole lot myself (I've been broke until recently) but I love to see at others do it. Is anyone else into costuming, or anything else of the sorts?

I've been making some PA costumes for me web series. I've gotten a ton of stuff at salvation army and goodwill. Lots of sports pads, an old knee brace, and various other random weird things. I've also just recently made a shinguard out of an old license plate of mine, which I've gotten a few more from friends to make into more armour pieces.

Its also a good time to make everything look old and crappy.

I have been thinking about trying to start a PA larper group, maybe going off the Fallout universe or something. I have some stuff already that would be perfect for costumes.

it's called The Scout, set in a PA world. It hasn't yet started, as we are currently filming season one. Once we get closer to uploading the first episode, I'll create a thread here about it.

i love watching movies with good PA costuming, i just watched book of eli on my ipod while trying to fall asleep. more than anything i watched the costuming and props. i had just watched mad max 3 the other day for the first time in years and focused entirely on costuming.

mightypeculiar, i can't wait to see your work man! the most costuming i have done in PA has been for some zombie videos. I want to try my hand at doing up something a little over the top like fallout/borderlands/brink style but with real world functionality.

i keep thinking steal belt tire armor would be pretty bad ass.

I've gotten lots of skate and hockey pads (surprising how much hockey stuff you can find in texas) but haven't found many used football pads (also surprising). I'm trying to stay away from the football Mad Max look for now, but I think I'll go that way eventually. I've gotten plenty of military apparel from working on a few war short films recently, and a lot of old worn out clothes.

The thing I'm working on right now is making more armour out of all the license plates I've gotten a hold.

To put on a gas mask does not make you post-apocalytic. You need shoulder pads in hard plastic, metal or hard leather. hockey, fotball and all that gear works great. just rip of all flashy logotypes or cover them with camouflaging paint (black, gray or dark green). that will do just fine.

in the PA-movies and games car parts is considered to be the most efficient. but i find it to heavy to wear. looks nice it does.
