Anyone heard of "Noah's Castle" before?
« Thread Started on Oct 22, 2011, 7:21am »

This was a British 7-part TV series from 1979-1980 for older teens from what I can gather. There's next to no info on IMDB but trawling the web turns up the following outline: -

"It is the near-future and Britain faces social and economic collapse. Hyper-inflation leads to rioting and chronic food shortages but Norman Mortimer is determined to protect his loved ones from the encroaching chaos. Mortimer moves his family to a large house in the country and strengthens the cellar in preparation to hoard the food they will need to survive.

The Mortimer children are shocked by their father’s behaviour and argue that food should be fairly distributed to all those who need it. As the crises deepens the Mortimers arouse the suspicions of starving neighbours, blackmailers and the ruthless criminal Vince Holloway. As Norman struggles to keep his feuding family together news of the secret food store spreads and his ‘castle’ comes under siege..."

The entire 7-part series has been released on DVD and while I was certainly in the market for this show when it first aired in Australia I don't recall knowing about it and hence never saw it. So now I'm curious and I'm wondering if it's worth buying the DVD, I was hoping someone here might know more about it.

I read the book when I was at school, in the late 80s but never realised there was a TV series of it, giving it a quick google, it sounds pretty good.

With the help of the internet I am starting to find that there are a hell of a lot of interesting TV shows from the 1960s to the 1980s that I seemed to miss, even with repeats and so on (my father was an army officer and we moved around a lot with his various postings).

Fortunately there are some out there who think they can either make money out of those old shows or they truly love them enough to want to see them on DVD so we're starting to see a good many available again (even if it's not specifically on TV)

For example, the British show "The Prisoner", never saw it on TV, none of my relatives recall seeing but I'd read bits & pieces about it - as soon as it was available as a DVD box set I bought and watched about half of it in one weekend. Then I found the boxed set of "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" and did the same thing all over again!

I'm going to have to try to track this one down. Might be time to region-free my blu-ray player.

May the road gangs never meet you. May the wind be fallout-free. May the sun shine through the ashes, hot rain not fall on thee. And until we meet again, may no one hold your flesh in the palm of their hand.
